Last weekend, I come across a pair with a male singing and seemingly displaying to the female. After watching their movements and seeing them coming back to the same bush on occasions, I got myself into a position and sat down and waited for their arrival. They duly arrived with the female being quite bold and inquisitive with the male being a little cautious but also showing quite well at times with some posturing and tail flicking observed. I was able to get a few nice images of these smart little birds. I hope they stay in the area and hopefully breed like a pair did last year. 'Nocmig' recording has been a little difficult in the past few nights with either quite strong winds or rain but I did get the recorder out last night which produced a Tawny Owl and a <b><span style="color: red;">booming Bittern</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">94</span></b>) at 04:38 heard from the Stour Valley. Given the right wind direction, the call does carry well. Hopefully I can hear it myself over the weekend when I am out early.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Another weekend of weather contrasts. Saturday dawned sunny, mild and windless and was a beautiful spring day whilst Sunday dawned cloudy and rain soon arrived making for a shorter session. Birding Saturday from 05:30 till 11am produced 2 Greylag Geese, 25 Mute Swan, 2 Teal, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Grey Partridge</span></b> calling at dawn, 6 Pheasant, 1 Water Rail, 2 Coot, 3 Snipe, c150 Herring Gull, 66 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Marsh Harrier, 12 Common Buzzard with 7 together, 4 Kestrel, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Peregrine, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Raven</span></b>, 7 Skylark, 9 Chiffchaff singing, 8 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 118 Starling, 4 Song Thrush, 22 Redwing, 2 Fieldfare, 3 Stonechat, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Linnet, 9 Goldfinch, 7 Chaffinch, 1 Siskin, <b><span style="color: red;">3 Yellowhammer</span></b> and 8 Reed Bunting. A walk around this morning from 6am in dull cloudy conditions with rain produced 15 Mute Swan, 1 Water Rail, 2 Coot, c100 Herring Gull, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Raven</span></b>, 8 Chiffchaff, 4 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Stonechat, 4 Bullfinch, 1 Siskin, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Yellowhammer</span></b> and 13 Reed Bunting. It was also very pleasing to see some fresh <u>Beaver</u> activity on the trees and find a couple of <u>Badger </u>setts in the area. Recording Saturday night was generally quiet with 2 Water Rail and a Little Grebe of note. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwS7yjdsFbhXLuBxNYAPimGsuJcNR8jk9FYobqmjilp3T2UeVk5H_UzB59D0y_TTz-sG7e0uFrONEl1lb8TiA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Common Scoter</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbWsh9aOCSFN0pLaPgCJRe5D0A4Dt19thLg7ub1TG7KQbZ9yCfYFc_RJnhuW1priTXNwwgBYapPnrleGClPbx1EB_xmHm2Uno-HqpQy7qe9rEgamxx5fMLxpmVEim0RK2jKeQzGsal4tamsQuYAeZk01gZciu6RThqep5gWIrsdyyI9AhQneqf0833Yw/s830/y3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="830" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbWsh9aOCSFN0pLaPgCJRe5D0A4Dt19thLg7ub1TG7KQbZ9yCfYFc_RJnhuW1priTXNwwgBYapPnrleGClPbx1EB_xmHm2Uno-HqpQy7qe9rEgamxx5fMLxpmVEim0RK2jKeQzGsal4tamsQuYAeZk01gZciu6RThqep5gWIrsdyyI9AhQneqf0833Yw/s16000/y3.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_r8d5IhZDKa8m7KO3jBvQuJZLyKH55E4Z23HH_r0_qTt96PiIZdUD8GLbA7cEy0I9zujQv4EuLcdEeLZ1VFxwHoYeH-kxlQJvpTmWgSbH-gLxoR93Asqf-7f4Ve1xe5pOYcyPbZWtMvurATO681eH17FWqvjFEaqCWy38e5gt3DwiAqranwl1uNpXBg/s839/y4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="839" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_r8d5IhZDKa8m7KO3jBvQuJZLyKH55E4Z23HH_r0_qTt96PiIZdUD8GLbA7cEy0I9zujQv4EuLcdEeLZ1VFxwHoYeH-kxlQJvpTmWgSbH-gLxoR93Asqf-7f4Ve1xe5pOYcyPbZWtMvurATO681eH17FWqvjFEaqCWy38e5gt3DwiAqranwl1uNpXBg/s16000/y4.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Yellowhammer </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxWxDf8Tkcm8Jxl9mrgFM0ffJqJrnEO1KbtUJRY_jYqSjw5mso5WgKsgBk6e0R2sW3gw-Vx_nAVDV3csEgKFg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Chiffchaff</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-74305094982150558822024-03-15T16:21:00.005+00:002024-03-15T16:22:19.638+00:00<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">With migration underway now and a few recording sessions this week at night coinciding with light winds a few birds were noted including another <b><span style="color: red;">Avocet </span></b>on Monday night along with <b><span style="color: red;">Wigeon</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">89</span></b>) and 2 Water Rail. My first <b><span style="color: red;">singing Chiffchaff</span></b> was heard Wednesday morning as I collected the recorder from the night before which was quiet but recording Wednesday night produced more <b><span style="color: red;">Wigeon</span></b> over along with <b><span style="color: red;">Brent Geese</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">90</span></b>) and a probable <b><span style="color: red;">Long eared Owl</span></b>. Tawny Owl along with Teal were also noted during the week. Saturday dawned with beautiful sunshine and no wind and I made the most of the weather with a good walk around starting at 05:45. Birds noted included 28 Mute Swan, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Grey Partridge</span></b>, 2 Coot, 2 Lapwing, c180 Black headed Gull, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Mediterranean Gull</span></b>, 3 Common Gull, c68 Herring Gull, 2 Lesser Black backed Gull, 66 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 5 Common Buzzard, 3 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Peregrine, 6 Skylark, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Chiffchaff </span></b>(<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">87</span></b>) heard calling and seen well, 5 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Long tailed Tit, 84 Starling, 7 Song Thrush, 15 Redwing, 82 Fieldfare, 1 Pied Wagtail, 1 Greenfinch, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Corn Bunting</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">88</span></b>) were seen flying over Chislet Court Farm, <b><span style="color: red;">3 Yellowhammer</span></b> and 6 Reed Bunting. 'Nocmig' recording on a few nights other than the Avocet was pretty quiet except for a Tawny Owl and a Water Rail. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Sunday in contrast was horrible with most of the session spent walking around in heavy rain not seeing that much. birds noted included 33 Mute Swan, 1 Water Rail, 2 Coot, 1 Golden Plover, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Mediterranean Gull</span></b> still in fields, 83 Herring Gull, 114 Cormorant, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, 1 Jay, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Raven</span></b>, 2 Skylark, 5 Cetti's Warbler, 150 Starling, 15 Redwing, 60 Fieldfare, 2 Pied Wagtail, 2 Bullfinch, 5 Greenfinch, 13 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin, <b><span style="color: red;">3 Yellowhammer</span></b> and 8 Reed Bunting. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I was out early Sunday morning at 05:45 in the hope of hearing and maybe recording a Grey Partridge calling. With this in mind, I decided to make an early visit just before 06:00and walk up the path (in the photo) out on to the marsh to listen again for Grey Partridge.</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmjD-rHHUIasy1x12agbkD0UOL4tCwHLRI1Hf1vR72Z4wrEI02v2oYGxw5f__ukMi-brTbVW5ihO-RpZg5IvLzGN9PD1U0PxY1WVOWU9lI2tg_D_A-pmOYdGOfrpTn87ByaogsS8LEeyWKzUP8CjpNc-qg65zXg7nZ_TFL8duJmlTgle9PiE5XOJW4qw/s750/frosty.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="421" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmjD-rHHUIasy1x12agbkD0UOL4tCwHLRI1Hf1vR72Z4wrEI02v2oYGxw5f__ukMi-brTbVW5ihO-RpZg5IvLzGN9PD1U0PxY1WVOWU9lI2tg_D_A-pmOYdGOfrpTn87ByaogsS8LEeyWKzUP8CjpNc-qg65zXg7nZ_TFL8duJmlTgle9PiE5XOJW4qw/s16000/frosty.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: center;">Listening for Grey Partridge early morning out on the marsh</div><br /></span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">It wasn't long thankfully until I could hear a distant <b><span style="color: red;">Grey Partridge</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">85</span></b>) calling so continued up the path where I heard it a few times more until it soon fell silent around 06:10. I spent a while listening to the dawn chorus before driving around the Nethergong and took a brief walk before returning back to the car to get the hide. I had seen on a previous visit a Reed Bunting and Yellowhammer singing from a bush so thought I would give it a go in the hide to see whether they would turn up. I was soon set up and with the sun shining nicely, I could hear both species singing nearby in the early morning frosty weather. The fog started to come in slowly but thankfully, both species turned up in the next 30 minutes which enable me to take a few images. Not quite the Yellowhammer shots I wanted but it's a start so maybe another visit is in order to give it another go, if the weather actually gives me a chance at the weekends. With the fog starting to get heavier, I packed up and wandered back to the car where I noted <b><span style="color: red;">1 Raven</span></b>, 2 Stonechat and the usual common species singing which is now nice to hear. Recording Saturday night produced another Little Grebe calling but with March around the corner, I hope to get the recorder out as often as I can as this can be a good month for migrating species. Depending on any 'nocmig' sessions this week if the wind eases, the month ends on 85 species, 10 more species better than 2023 at the same point and my best ever February total. There were 14 'nocmig' sessions made at night during the month with Long eared Owl and Little Grebe of note. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc0cLfxVn8NklONiZimdY8lV-TgLEIy3kQftcPNT438AgjeTcnfPznOSvp3HEwGel3GWqxi1lYMiFu4M8sUPQTYNLaWx-aGzek7qFdAGD9c3WR3UYUsP5ZmWUd02qLtVfIl1ERKXe1I6WES7CI_uUtWd5rrmA7EOWR4wSL9w8N8hRkINgdVs4P4cXJtQ/s845/rb1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="845" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc0cLfxVn8NklONiZimdY8lV-TgLEIy3kQftcPNT438AgjeTcnfPznOSvp3HEwGel3GWqxi1lYMiFu4M8sUPQTYNLaWx-aGzek7qFdAGD9c3WR3UYUsP5ZmWUd02qLtVfIl1ERKXe1I6WES7CI_uUtWd5rrmA7EOWR4wSL9w8N8hRkINgdVs4P4cXJtQ/s16000/rb1.jpg" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS1VLHJqMI-s1_U6wFod4TLA5jLd2dnkOHiVqYgOYks3Cag-Zr_HMIekK0xX5FHRprgVkK4s5Yxs2mR1_1eW4KjtCpaQU6LjJut5FqdJldgE-DysikTNycQP8xDu7MXud2AfuRsmxonFmchkKiMAVe7nI1_59oM_I9nVPC7DoqZhzsXh4uRF59LT_e5A/s871/rb2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="871" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS1VLHJqMI-s1_U6wFod4TLA5jLd2dnkOHiVqYgOYks3Cag-Zr_HMIekK0xX5FHRprgVkK4s5Yxs2mR1_1eW4KjtCpaQU6LjJut5FqdJldgE-DysikTNycQP8xDu7MXud2AfuRsmxonFmchkKiMAVe7nI1_59oM_I9nVPC7DoqZhzsXh4uRF59LT_e5A/s16000/rb2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Reed Bunting</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrKShN_EWREpv69R4vyXwl921xKx97_Uxq36Mipsfhh1Xg7N6Y-fIvZf9C3mb5IXvs8F-byJIaIEvR9gcJLy7ZheNPs4iMotDwyVd_0GRApPE2A9rY-rIuUj4_mWDOTXlIHA-Z342F9JUFalGxyzhzRPRFWrcEuNaqSASj9EbwxA2TVL4Jr2CtUgPeGA/s828/yh1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="828" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrKShN_EWREpv69R4vyXwl921xKx97_Uxq36Mipsfhh1Xg7N6Y-fIvZf9C3mb5IXvs8F-byJIaIEvR9gcJLy7ZheNPs4iMotDwyVd_0GRApPE2A9rY-rIuUj4_mWDOTXlIHA-Z342F9JUFalGxyzhzRPRFWrcEuNaqSASj9EbwxA2TVL4Jr2CtUgPeGA/s16000/yh1.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;"><div style="text-align: center;">Yellowhammer</div></span><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-47686012700302976952024-02-24T17:54:00.000+00:002024-02-24T17:54:52.073+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">With a few nights in the week with lighter winds, I was able to get the recorder out and on the night of the 20th, I recorded a <b><span style="color: red;">Little Grebe</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">83</span></b>) flying over calling. This species is annual here but I have still only ever seen one on the patch in the 8 years of recording. It just goes to show how important the 'nocmig' recording is to prove what species are on the move during the hours of darkness. Also heard in the week were a couple of Tawny Owl, Gadwall, Teal and Snipe. Back to this morning and I was out early at 05:30 listening unsuccessfully for Owls and Grey Partridge. After parking up I spent a few hours walking around most of the patch noting 55 which included 4 Greylag Geese, 36 Mute Swan, c20 Mallard, 1 Teal, 5 Pheasant, 2 Water Rail, 12 Moorhen, 3 Coot, 6 Snipe, c50 Black headed Gull, c250 Herring Gull, 56 Cormorant and 1 Grey Heron. As I walked up the stream in the growing light, a duck flew up in silhouette which I thought looked good for a Mandarin. I retraced my steps back to the lake where a few minutes later a drake <b><span style="color: red;">Mandarin</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">84</span></b>) flew past and out of sight. A bonus bird for the year with a couple of records in the past few years. Normally I encounter a female or juveniles in the overgrown stream in July having probably bred nearby so it was nice to see a drake for the first time. Other bits seen included 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Sparrowhawk, 7 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 3 Jay, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Raven</span></b>, 3 Skylark, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, c30 Starling, c15 Fieldfare, 6 Stonechat, 2 Pied Wagtail, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Brambling</span></b> still in the mixed finch flock but I suspect more are about as the flock soon disappeared and didn't return whilst I was there. There were also 4 Greenfinch, 18 Linnet, 22 Goldfinch, <b><span style="color: red;">4 Yellowhammer</span></b> and 11 Reed Bunting. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; A couple of hours early this morning from first light in drizzly and cloudy conditions and again this afternoon for an hour at 15:15 in sunny conditions overlooking some of the marsh. Birds noted this morning included c40 Mute swan, 1 Water Rail, 10 Moorhen, 1 Coot, 1720 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Marsh Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Raven</span></b>, 1 Skylark, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 110 Fieldfare, 2 Stonechat, 3 Meadow Pipit and 4 Reed Bunting. This afternoon with the scope overlooking some of the marsh produced 3 Marsh Harrier, 2 Kestrel, 3 Common Buzzard and best of all, <b><span style="color: red;">1 ring-tail Hen Harrier </span></b>(<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">82</span></b>) seen flying in quite high from the east and eventually coming down lower before continuing on towards Grove Ferry. A bonus bird for the year. Recording on the night of the 15th produced a close calling Tawny Owl. As I took quite a few shots the other day of the Firecrest, I thought I would post a few more. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3nLnYoOYWVcQ_3jFYhK5NTry4JoE6VgzuvtahX2_yeaSe522ag2dgadbxzFt9uP6pI8s0WM_cffno0ZqtRDMP6NJ3cVcbP9HxgX1pbkiZyh7AKFZcfHlsDUMwn4I0N51iyNy8VQKYNFz00zo45isibq2buepw62bYpCDoPBkFjR1XQ5ckIDJ-hsSVhg/s820/f1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="820" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3nLnYoOYWVcQ_3jFYhK5NTry4JoE6VgzuvtahX2_yeaSe522ag2dgadbxzFt9uP6pI8s0WM_cffno0ZqtRDMP6NJ3cVcbP9HxgX1pbkiZyh7AKFZcfHlsDUMwn4I0N51iyNy8VQKYNFz00zo45isibq2buepw62bYpCDoPBkFjR1XQ5ckIDJ-hsSVhg/s16000/f1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoimnRHsIFfwkrHr0E1UnLpf2JkLSbnFZX0wXBUSMV4_KgrwsVqSVsdPtOnMDBnmXCtwqGMqB7RlfxWrtUbEx1r-o9OqASlE1Uf5iItu3amghsV3oTKpC-QqofERXhDZ-SL68vgWNUf5zvJtVhZi4ZQrh1XYIwUP2Xmcrwmwa6ZWfU6L894LURZwPGFw/s813/f2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="813" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoimnRHsIFfwkrHr0E1UnLpf2JkLSbnFZX0wXBUSMV4_KgrwsVqSVsdPtOnMDBnmXCtwqGMqB7RlfxWrtUbEx1r-o9OqASlE1Uf5iItu3amghsV3oTKpC-QqofERXhDZ-SL68vgWNUf5zvJtVhZi4ZQrh1XYIwUP2Xmcrwmwa6ZWfU6L894LURZwPGFw/s16000/f2.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Firecrest </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyO5IKbIuZfU_NJTNaywsbmGtSmYR6DYXfA-Hco8vFmBCcdlCPllj9XdLG4WQ6BIZnjPEYWoYxCjgL6upyRcw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Tawny Owl </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-26558424684590711772024-02-12T20:32:00.000+00:002024-02-12T20:32:07.461+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">A few hours spent at Nethergong over the weekend and this morning produced a calling Little Owl and Barn Owl Saturday morning with another Barn Owl seen in the headlights as I pulled up at Nethergong. A <b><span style="color: red;">Raven</span></b> was seen this morning and c200 Fieldfare were in the fields along with the usual gulls which included a <b><span style="color: red;">Mediterranean Gull</span></b>. A walk around the Sunflower field produced c30 Chaffinch, c20 Goldfinch, c15 Greenfinch, 10 Linnet and at least <b><span style="color: red;">5 Brambling</span></b> with a smart male present. Also seen were 3 Grey Heron, 2 Peregrine, 2 Kestrel and 1 Sparrowhawk. Recording on the night of the 10th February produced 1 Tawny Owl, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Mediterranean Gull </span></b>and best of all, a single call from a <b><span style="color: red;">Long eared Owl</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">80</span></b>). I had been told this location might deliver the chance of an encounter and so it was pleasing to know they are around. The recorder is out there again tonight in the hope of another chance of hearing it. As I walked around the area today with Firecrest in mind, I picked up on a crest singing from some trees and was pleased to see there were <b><span style="color: red;">2 Firecrest</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">81</span></b>). I watched for a few minutes as the male continued to sing and display to the female which enabled me to grab a few pleasing images from quite close as they ignored my presence. What stunning little birds and great to add to the year list which are just about annual. Hopefully recording at night might produce a few bonus birds and with March around the corner and birds beginning to migrate, I'm hopeful of a few passing through. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Saturday and Sunday morning were both spent walking around the area in lovely sunny winter conditions. Saturday started at 06:30 until 10:30 where I noted 44 Mute Swan, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Teal</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">73</span></b>) flushed from the main lake, c65 Stock Dove, 1 Water Rail, 20 Moorhen, 3 Coot, c120 Lapwing, <span style="color: red;"><b>2 Woodcock</b></span> into roost, 3 Snipe, 61 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker, <b><span style="color: red;">5 Siskin</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">74</span></b>) <b><span style="color: red;">2 Raven</span></b>, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Skylark</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">75</span></b>) 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 5 Song Thrush, 3 Fieldfare, 5 Stonechat, 1 Pied Wagtail, 3 Meadow Pipit and <b><span style="color: red;">12 Greylag Geese</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">76</span></b>) flying south towards Grove Ferry.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Sunday morning dawned frosty but despite waiting for the Woodcock to fly into roost, none appeared. Birding the area until 10:30 produced 2 Greylag Geese, 52 Mute Swan, 124 Stock Dove, 8 Collared Dove, 2 Water Rail, 18 Moorhen, 3 Coot, 406 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, c400 Black headed Gull, c200 Herring Gull, 5 Common Gull, 202 Cormorant, 3 Marsh Harrier, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Kestrel, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Raven</span></b>, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Long tailed Tit, 153 Starling, 60 Fieldfare, 1 Stonechat, 21 House Sparrow and <b><span style="color: red;">1 Grey Wagtail</span></b>. The local farmer planted a corner of a field last year with Sunflowers and these have been let to turn to seed. This in turn has resulted in good numbers of finches being seen which included c50 Chaffinch, c15 Greenfinch, 22 Linnet, 6 Reed Bunting, c30 Goldfinch and most surprisingly of all, at least <b><span style="color: red;">4 Brambling</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">77</span></b>). This is normally a species I only see in autumn as a flyover so really nice to see them on the deck. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more in the flock of birds. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Nocmig stats for the month resulted in 6 nights recording where the birds recorded included Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Snipe and Mallard. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAZ_je8TfPK7y375NjQ4Yg0fmDdHMX-YyZX47fNkZ2cQYcqQ6Gajnt1eRBOnLxmsI5OQr2BFRApmy9exhSMjjHS8NCAeUPGGA2-RgO4maGERPwbbXdthLr_fKjhVHVrqfo29IeBAJjgyU7YaVR7P-lAoySIOgDV5s9MATuTW9ycFznO_9fdHGvFYGpVQ/s750/br1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="510" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAZ_je8TfPK7y375NjQ4Yg0fmDdHMX-YyZX47fNkZ2cQYcqQ6Gajnt1eRBOnLxmsI5OQr2BFRApmy9exhSMjjHS8NCAeUPGGA2-RgO4maGERPwbbXdthLr_fKjhVHVrqfo29IeBAJjgyU7YaVR7P-lAoySIOgDV5s9MATuTW9ycFznO_9fdHGvFYGpVQ/s16000/br1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAOW2w-PfzUiYTcJ9OAcDaEJU49Y-gA78kJ3f7SoK6eUlGGLrPREj7sJyJByR_K55ceqiM90GiY-HNC6T8nM-kM7c5_D2ga42p21iyizjDKkyvdGOpotPcdZa2zEh7aTkH3GNScpFAleZckPadx2_vMg6KmRDoUF2dJ0NCHgnQKIHiWylZNKKcC-kvMA/s750/br2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="501" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAOW2w-PfzUiYTcJ9OAcDaEJU49Y-gA78kJ3f7SoK6eUlGGLrPREj7sJyJByR_K55ceqiM90GiY-HNC6T8nM-kM7c5_D2ga42p21iyizjDKkyvdGOpotPcdZa2zEh7aTkH3GNScpFAleZckPadx2_vMg6KmRDoUF2dJ0NCHgnQKIHiWylZNKKcC-kvMA/s16000/br2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWUQ8vHCKsqs6qA1pWJCGdF7bNAlwuqjX_oDJxbIzikEAd6efcdnvVOLPAtD-Paq4sIBD6z16R-Kv57RR6SGjXgnLRwbcgTXfiSlho7AVUmOyUwFwUr-nN93-kzlDJF2BrOmXc6YqDJ5elNN8f0W4YgYo2BAdizvMn05inBWUKTVxxdkwwWrfnjBky4w/s750/br3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWUQ8vHCKsqs6qA1pWJCGdF7bNAlwuqjX_oDJxbIzikEAd6efcdnvVOLPAtD-Paq4sIBD6z16R-Kv57RR6SGjXgnLRwbcgTXfiSlho7AVUmOyUwFwUr-nN93-kzlDJF2BrOmXc6YqDJ5elNN8f0W4YgYo2BAdizvMn05inBWUKTVxxdkwwWrfnjBky4w/s16000/br3.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdVrs9_cXF285V0TaYncM9x749rEhhPAQUt02WaLz2lmzjuI6AgQJOQk0BzDr54oKjNvT3TVF9S6YfNeWAc5oFs-hXYhzUTPg2RR3uELJ4sOtHz4hoAyVgEgTNPXkW6DPl8rEmgkrAkhmD4SRlc-Xm83nyatxhyphenhyphenkHo2sxWJC0mxGY1m733uwu8OkvedQ/s750/br4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="504" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdVrs9_cXF285V0TaYncM9x749rEhhPAQUt02WaLz2lmzjuI6AgQJOQk0BzDr54oKjNvT3TVF9S6YfNeWAc5oFs-hXYhzUTPg2RR3uELJ4sOtHz4hoAyVgEgTNPXkW6DPl8rEmgkrAkhmD4SRlc-Xm83nyatxhyphenhyphenkHo2sxWJC0mxGY1m733uwu8OkvedQ/s16000/br4.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Brambling </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-58518505600625071382024-01-20T17:51:00.003+00:002024-01-29T16:53:32.944+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Birding in freezing conditions with many of the pools and ditches frozen over from 06:45 - 10:30am produced 72 Mallard, c170 Stock Dove, 2 Water Rail, 2 Coot on the frozen lake with c 35 Mallard, 12 Golden Plover in fields with c150 Lapwing, 27 Snipe, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Green Sandpiper</span></b> (<b><span style="color: #2b00fe;">70</span></b>) flew up the ditches, 3 Common Gull, c450 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker and 2 Kestrel. Weather permitting, I might try and get the recorder out during the night at some point. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrHlX7ZA0DU9YmLmvT62MPUIZNsXr0To-OhUoP5DfjYM-dmc-AQEjo8-neEeSRDKWXALFPToiVUt2Fq_tbxm09S_Lt9EZHm8aIiEC6OW7_R_Da1bO7exW9Ys-MBAf1_XfHPDOWKx5YWKK0_L5nMqC8K_PqOLND6QWGg2LoWHtbNbsTSP7K5qVjlJKp9g/s750/gwe1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="508" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrHlX7ZA0DU9YmLmvT62MPUIZNsXr0To-OhUoP5DfjYM-dmc-AQEjo8-neEeSRDKWXALFPToiVUt2Fq_tbxm09S_Lt9EZHm8aIiEC6OW7_R_Da1bO7exW9Ys-MBAf1_XfHPDOWKx5YWKK0_L5nMqC8K_PqOLND6QWGg2LoWHtbNbsTSP7K5qVjlJKp9g/s16000/gwe1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX_VCXuYJ-h2wpHUqEabYpnHIBHRnVLSIZ-afYT7pO-5G2Pcmi_HAPKwf1hobqvt4vCjwuYLvSX423RRuWZphHy6NM4mn4U0w7cHXnY_uuG1FOgiUwfgVADIAUnc2kEvQ8FeDK9-WTCHEOKTdZsDYudueNIDBpeYXiM7ETK3WCjN1MbRefvI1YUof2cA/s750/gwe2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="476" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX_VCXuYJ-h2wpHUqEabYpnHIBHRnVLSIZ-afYT7pO-5G2Pcmi_HAPKwf1hobqvt4vCjwuYLvSX423RRuWZphHy6NM4mn4U0w7cHXnY_uuG1FOgiUwfgVADIAUnc2kEvQ8FeDK9-WTCHEOKTdZsDYudueNIDBpeYXiM7ETK3WCjN1MbRefvI1YUof2cA/s16000/gwe2.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Great White Egret </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-60698821893422941512024-01-01T19:53:00.006+00:002024-01-29T16:39:22.548+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I spent most of the day in the Nethergong area, starting at 7am until midday and then another hour from 14:30 overlooking Chislet Marshes. I managed to see or hear <u>59 species</u> which included <b><span style="color: red;">2 Woodcock</span></b> into roost at 07:10, <b><span style="color: red;">2 Raven</span></b>, c60 Mute Swan, <b><span style="color: red;">10 Bewick's Swans</span></b> were seen in flight appearing to take off from a pool near Sarre where they flew off towards Reculver. Their smaller size, shorter necked appearance and faster wingbeats noted. There were c400 Stock Dove, 1 Water Rail, 2 Coot, c40 Lapwing seen distantly in flight, 2 Snipe, c60 Black headed Gull, <b><span style="color: red;">1 adult winter Mediterranean Gull</span> </b>in fields with other gulls, c80 Herring Gull, 2 Lesser Black backed Gull, 567 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Sparrowhawk, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, 1 Jay, 2, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 12 Long tailed Tit, 1 Goldcrest, 19 Redwing, 84 Fieldfare, 4 Stonechat, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Grey Wagtail</span></b>, 1 Bullfinch, 8 Greenfinch, c35 Linnet, <b><span style="color: red;">1 Yellowhammer</span></b> and 5 Reed Bunting. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdqgZarEa8q2Wy27JHvNt89Ps01mOoE5tfSdhYYQ-yIu1Xe5jHgPTm22YEbytdlKqlm7ATj88qAz5Ff3pfM0V67zBZBJak3G3DarE-gzF2aw_AUwr890boUFiV-0PehlvoTH3OhoDZ0WJZUdLcz7sAxPMvpXiagi280Yx-qZ4eW-kgWnRXh3G8kXmkzw/s875/ja.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="875" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdqgZarEa8q2Wy27JHvNt89Ps01mOoE5tfSdhYYQ-yIu1Xe5jHgPTm22YEbytdlKqlm7ATj88qAz5Ff3pfM0V67zBZBJak3G3DarE-gzF2aw_AUwr890boUFiV-0PehlvoTH3OhoDZ0WJZUdLcz7sAxPMvpXiagi280Yx-qZ4eW-kgWnRXh3G8kXmkzw/s16000/ja.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo4amshE7PyakxVaDqZ0X6kKB3l4m65XmrubXojNo5MSsxg2E-iCTaSUSpMxt8hUVoo1yx6b6JWFiLtU6nKsI_Frtx4COkjHhj0Nds_4rw_yE36kU-aagZmhSJpi2T_-DLV6jvmygjW8W_LHfEdthzgBn6ysq9IHAj53uE3D50Cac2zXFcGqtpcv2PWg/s843/jb.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="843" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo4amshE7PyakxVaDqZ0X6kKB3l4m65XmrubXojNo5MSsxg2E-iCTaSUSpMxt8hUVoo1yx6b6JWFiLtU6nKsI_Frtx4COkjHhj0Nds_4rw_yE36kU-aagZmhSJpi2T_-DLV6jvmygjW8W_LHfEdthzgBn6ysq9IHAj53uE3D50Cac2zXFcGqtpcv2PWg/s16000/jb.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Jay </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-1019425105333003162023-12-27T16:57:00.000+00:002023-12-27T16:57:17.222+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The final push for year ticks! A couple of visits over the past week have produced a few birds including yesterday, <b>1 Raven</b>, 1 Peregrine, c300 Stock Dove, 63 Golden Plover flying NW, 1 Marsh Harrier and c60 Linnet. I often check the gulls in the fields for something different and whilst scanning through with the binoculars, I picked out a bird which had a slightly darker back than the Herring Gulls around it and appeared to show yellow legs. I had my suspicions this could be a Yellow-legged Gull but am not too great on gull id. I took a few very distant shots in the hope I could get an id of the bird and also a few flight shots showing the wing pattern. I watched it for sometime and every time it passed a Herring Gull, it was easy to pick out with the darker back. I posted a few shots on Twitter last night and asked a few of the Gull experts out there who both come back and said it was indeed an adult <b>Yellow-legged Gull </b>(<b><span style="color: red;">128</span></b>). This is a new species for the site and one I have been hoping for. I did take the scope with me today but couldn't re-find it. Other bits today included <b>c600 Stock Dove</b> in fields together, 3 Common Buzzard, 1 Peregrine, 2 Kestrel, 5 Fieldfare, 1 Coot, 1 Greenfinch, 4 Stonechat, a mixed flock of c80 Chaffinch and Linnet, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 4 distant Goose species over St Nicholas at Wade and whilst checking the Gulls flying by, I managed to find <b>2 Great Black backed Gulls</b> (<b><span style="color: red;">129</span></b>). This may well be the last species added this year unless I can repeat last years final Hen Harrier on New Years eve. Weather permitting, I will hopefully be out having a look for something before the year finally says goodbye. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgswyCJQ3kW1wq6kkcr5_8rqGJfRtYp0d7XjRBXlYrOgnuaEKF8UOyL5ZKS0_vpRYn2bD_KUlRRhi6fdLthiwwV_v05bZD-RdZ8SpJDloqsqKzg1hz2mZ0oJYlNMoUAz0mjAHCwkFfAG0zj_i6vg_ouhO_9pPIoskZMsXH_dA6IwpzzNHl978gD7RYc6A/s750/ylg1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="463" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgswyCJQ3kW1wq6kkcr5_8rqGJfRtYp0d7XjRBXlYrOgnuaEKF8UOyL5ZKS0_vpRYn2bD_KUlRRhi6fdLthiwwV_v05bZD-RdZ8SpJDloqsqKzg1hz2mZ0oJYlNMoUAz0mjAHCwkFfAG0zj_i6vg_ouhO_9pPIoskZMsXH_dA6IwpzzNHl978gD7RYc6A/s16000/ylg1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizTsizLbi6izArSps1gHQ2b46JPzNITbLYpP-4sEo-1AgucbeNUMS8qdQfTc1wOJgnhr-h8-dLZdYKPEAnavbOUGWXP_APaV_OluUkA_yQQaL1qv-5o5H-iGwGZQCJoZbQZ8bmQ-Ziy_rqAgPBgMdNu2MYfTDNdvXP9RniM2Kk45Goj23w7CHeVPO9qQ/s750/ylg2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="470" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizTsizLbi6izArSps1gHQ2b46JPzNITbLYpP-4sEo-1AgucbeNUMS8qdQfTc1wOJgnhr-h8-dLZdYKPEAnavbOUGWXP_APaV_OluUkA_yQQaL1qv-5o5H-iGwGZQCJoZbQZ8bmQ-Ziy_rqAgPBgMdNu2MYfTDNdvXP9RniM2Kk45Goj23w7CHeVPO9qQ/s16000/ylg2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib0aYyuS3cEbXPY_702428wrL1zx5hQbPQYEiiATv-fZco3XVjEluLwPs94eEDVqSpj9uG8GgrD-ksiS9UaywNbsuoxCaE6NvCw7FjI3xeav5x86mDuzE-QZV8PVHNq7x4sWidP5AVNWnOTXdJL2STr4YiP1jFQoEmWAyDOJ9i261aBpXZutD5dZEuFA/s750/ylg3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib0aYyuS3cEbXPY_702428wrL1zx5hQbPQYEiiATv-fZco3XVjEluLwPs94eEDVqSpj9uG8GgrD-ksiS9UaywNbsuoxCaE6NvCw7FjI3xeav5x86mDuzE-QZV8PVHNq7x4sWidP5AVNWnOTXdJL2STr4YiP1jFQoEmWAyDOJ9i261aBpXZutD5dZEuFA/s16000/ylg3.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Adult Yellow-legged Gull<br /></span><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-63461210329613085882023-12-20T17:33:00.000+00:002023-12-20T17:33:07.715+00:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">With the holidays now here and a little more time on my hands, I have made a couple more trips down to Nethergong where I have spent a few hours in my hide watching and photographing the Jays. The weather has not been brilliant to say the least and I have only had a few sunny spells where the Jays have actually turned up on cue. Having said that, at least 4 Jays have been seen in the woods with a couple quite confident now. The Squirrels however have been completely doing my head in and seem never to give up. When they have not been ruining everything I have managed to take a number of pleasing images of these beautiful birds. Other notable birds seen or heard from the hide over the past few days have included 1 Green Sandpiper heard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Goldcrest and 1 Sparrowhawk. I spent a couple of hours Monday night watching over Chislet Marshes, just north of Nethergong where I noted 4 Common Buzzard, 3 Marsh Harrier, c120 Lapwing, 81 Mute Swan, c100 Fieldfare and <b>1 Raven</b>. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; This worked well last year with some of my best Jay shots taken. With the help of Jed who during the week puts out some peanuts on the logs, I'm hoping that the birds soon find it and return every now and then. With a small window this morning before yet more rain appeared late morning, I arrived on site at 07:15 and quietly set up the hide in view of the feeding station and settled in to see what would turn up. My only observations in the past week when I have walked by have been a Carrion Crow and Magpie, with Jed seeing Pheasant also using the station. I had only just got set up and it wasn't even a good light when I heard Jays calling in the wood and soon after, 2 Jays arrived on the logs and soon began to feed. They seemed quite settled and I would assume have visited a few times. With the light awful at the moment, I just spent the time watching them through the camera. They fed up and then flew a short distance where I could see them burying them before covering with leaves. In the next hour or so they returned quite a few times and seemed to accept the hide and clicking camera. With the light picking up but never sunny, I was able to grab a number of pleasing images as they fed happily a few metres away. They really are a stunning species to see up close and fingers crossed, I shall give it a go next weekend weather permitting and hope they return in the sunshine. Other notable birds seen or heard whilst in the hide included 2 Raven flying over calling. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Saturday in sunny weather from 7am produced 37 Greylag Geese, 6 Mute Swan, 2 Common Gull, 42 Cormorant, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, 1 Peregrine, 2 Jay, <b>1 Raven</b>, 4 Skylark, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 9 Redwing, 2 Fieldfare, 4 Stonechat, 1 Grey Wagtail, 16 Chaffinch, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Greenfinch, 1 Siskin and <b>3 Yellowhammer</b>. In cloudy skies this morning from 7am I noted 1 Golden Plover, 31 Cormorant, 1 Sparrowhawk, 4 Common Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, <b>1 Raven</b>, 4 Skylark, <b>1 Swallow</b> flying south, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 8 Redwing, 14 Fieldfare, 3 Stonechat, 2 Pied Wagtail, <b>1 Brambling</b> heard (<b><span style="color: red;">127</span></b>), 2 Bullfinch, 1 Greenfinch, 2 Siskin and 2 Reed Bunting. 'Nocmig' recording last night failed to produce anything flying over. Before leaving this morning, I spent some time preparing and area near the top wood for my feeding station where hopefully over the winter, I can tempt in some Jays and other species to photograph from my hide. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRIY79w4rK6zXkMt4w-MDKzsIM9va39BEU5gHafYKR1sI7BdIyeeGalX_qh5e8gOrw9dXd6RviprOYpWk-l_UfYoHA_nMc0lm1NB8w6lLKy5k0O8C640VAZq7f1CtvIptYh0-bSTwXlDvlnTDp9v4IEtjdtVb3NsAcrN_H1Cz6e9tsuXzgRGLjiSAZYA/s833/gcrest1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="833" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRIY79w4rK6zXkMt4w-MDKzsIM9va39BEU5gHafYKR1sI7BdIyeeGalX_qh5e8gOrw9dXd6RviprOYpWk-l_UfYoHA_nMc0lm1NB8w6lLKy5k0O8C640VAZq7f1CtvIptYh0-bSTwXlDvlnTDp9v4IEtjdtVb3NsAcrN_H1Cz6e9tsuXzgRGLjiSAZYA/s16000/gcrest1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxC5lHIGVObyklTM-lsqK4_qhHRraoPFtv-FCfRZx75GK0eFEHC2Uo8tLn3ilmYLLm0ggbog-pxfYWi24VQzKALNFEEO3vvFODiYmuTWS_2395uh2gbTjRBNMtlo2Z_ge5dcKZ9sZhgIBn1rfUSkAS6zv6i2cdfI5ZUrK_tZaqMrRxo8QimShcUdGTAQ/s787/gcrest2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="787" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxC5lHIGVObyklTM-lsqK4_qhHRraoPFtv-FCfRZx75GK0eFEHC2Uo8tLn3ilmYLLm0ggbog-pxfYWi24VQzKALNFEEO3vvFODiYmuTWS_2395uh2gbTjRBNMtlo2Z_ge5dcKZ9sZhgIBn1rfUSkAS6zv6i2cdfI5ZUrK_tZaqMrRxo8QimShcUdGTAQ/s16000/gcrest2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Goldcrest</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-MepvvfoEwyCxGhetIWtHyuStPKTr531g3-f8l6xpSNRsOjv1TBwmII8spum5v9kF0waSE4GLQJI4hED9PklpjDgqQL2PLfFg2IyB2IhQkjAEGYY_RMMVjYtpweLsTiZxcY6FwcND1Vre_RAy2SUfXmjA-QQn57dVoXQBA0yzpW8vVkj1uadkQPZgQA/s854/schat1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="854" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-MepvvfoEwyCxGhetIWtHyuStPKTr531g3-f8l6xpSNRsOjv1TBwmII8spum5v9kF0waSE4GLQJI4hED9PklpjDgqQL2PLfFg2IyB2IhQkjAEGYY_RMMVjYtpweLsTiZxcY6FwcND1Vre_RAy2SUfXmjA-QQn57dVoXQBA0yzpW8vVkj1uadkQPZgQA/s16000/schat1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX9QwkE3B2eydfKre0zXHFTx-iy9nnOWrGJqU7CzDr-uX57BQ91-LIZAPP1KNqrEjdwnrl6L4GMb7Rqk8qFBiHBfJcMco2x40ObDRRkWRr_WRohJfmBqdH1J4QsdrHvDo9geAy6ZDj9OOPT1qKnYu6bQx-5NKl8DNYOKEBBHeQeKNQU8xpfZejXeERBg/s750/schat3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="527" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX9QwkE3B2eydfKre0zXHFTx-iy9nnOWrGJqU7CzDr-uX57BQ91-LIZAPP1KNqrEjdwnrl6L4GMb7Rqk8qFBiHBfJcMco2x40ObDRRkWRr_WRohJfmBqdH1J4QsdrHvDo9geAy6ZDj9OOPT1qKnYu6bQx-5NKl8DNYOKEBBHeQeKNQU8xpfZejXeERBg/s16000/schat3.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Stonechat</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-72669272970977447782023-10-17T17:18:00.000+01:002023-10-17T17:18:24.051+01:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">An hour or so over at Nethergong on Sunday late afternoon produced a surprise <b>Red Kite</b> which flew up from a tree and landed on a nearby Pylon where a while later it made a brief flyby allowing a few shots as the sun was going down. Last night produced a few birds including a flock of <b>Brent Geese</b> over just after 7pm, 2 Tawny Owl, <b>1 Dunlin</b> (<b><span style="color: red;">126</span></b>) over at 23:15, a new bird for the site and 1 Wigeon. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dzxtF5wEhx1SDnZxsYG3mhrhQwC-F-uKXNxZZCXPglKO2b0j4weuHYipSuuYC6Y7BzNOHT5oUsJPP81lVn6wQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Brent Geese</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxOruCZTBT3lkTreIwWtFiuFJvfECOx5kgoQbk3vGYTdtSkH23yC1Tk6jihOfGdkP9-7C-4-qKtKU4jedragA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Dunlin</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyJWIC2D77s-jiLYqN76bQc4DaRG9k330j6lUwN_paffmt55qiVAHl8JlMp7PbHxpHIps4IK8EuJS6C7YTiAg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Wigeon </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-51671029539553684542023-09-01T17:18:00.001+01:002023-09-01T17:18:45.984+01:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">A visit on the 29th produced <b>1 Turtle Dove</b>, 147 Black headed Gull, <b>14 Mediterranean Gull</b>, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 2 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, <b>2 Raven</b>, 4 Reed Warbler, 12 Swallow, 2 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, <b>8 Whinchat</b>, 1 Yellow Wagtail, <b>1 Yellowhammer</b> and 5 Reed Bunting. A visit yesterday (31st) produced <b>1 Greenshank</b> heard, 100 Black headed Gull, <b>1 Mediterranean Gull</b>, 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, 2 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, <b>2 Raven</b>, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 30 Swallow, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 60 Goldfinch, <b>3 Corn Bunting</b> which are a scarce species here, <b>2 Yellowhammer</b> and 7 Reed Bunting. Having checked most areas for Redstarts and Flycatchers, I was walking back along a line of trees when a bird briefly flew out and back again out of sight. I thought it looked quite good for a Flycatcher. As I approached slowly, it flew out and over the other side of the stream to some nearby bushes where it dived into cover. I could see it was a Flycatcher in flight but wasn't sure which one. After waiting a few minutes it briefly appeared in the open where I quickly saw a white wing bar and was convinced this was a Pied Flycatcher but wanted a better view. This is a rare bird here with only one other record in the six years of recording. As I tried for a distant shot, a Whitethroat chased it back into cover. I waited but no further sign until I looked up to see a Flycatcher trying to land on the power lines before flying back to a tree further away. It sat in the open briefly allowing me to grab a few distant shots before vanishing never to be seen again. I couldn't make my mind up on the bird as it was far away but I could make out what looked like a good wing bar. I put a few shots on Twitter where I had 3 replies, one of Spotted and two for Pied Flycatcher. One reply in particular form Scott Haughie made some excellent identification points which included 'a small white spot on the forehead, no crown streaks and a good separation between a whitish throat and brownish cheeks'. Add what looks like a good white wingbar and I'm now happy this is a <b>Pied Flycatcher</b> (<b><span style="color: red;">125</span></b>). 'Nocmig' recording at night is still disappointing with only Tawny Owl and another <b>Whimbrel</b> heard. I really could do with a few good waders flying over to boost the year list. Back to work now so back to weekend birding but hopefully a few sessions recording at night weather permitting over the weekend and next week. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinXOPk_q-scs4cit8-PbFjLR-HDyNnRqb65TuaHMrM9EPZbCE3DiLkdStzaPw-T6924O-txPcBZ8HZp2V8XdWZlshawwDyjXq8G_YKWXzR0ykL9goULt0dUDO-ra57T3yJ8DThv0pX0-cFP3LjOhVkAzXrGLbYL_W6raT68RsYW0T1-pAh6Sj2H5PX_A/s750/cbunt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="492" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinXOPk_q-scs4cit8-PbFjLR-HDyNnRqb65TuaHMrM9EPZbCE3DiLkdStzaPw-T6924O-txPcBZ8HZp2V8XdWZlshawwDyjXq8G_YKWXzR0ykL9goULt0dUDO-ra57T3yJ8DThv0pX0-cFP3LjOhVkAzXrGLbYL_W6raT68RsYW0T1-pAh6Sj2H5PX_A/s16000/cbunt.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Corn Bunting (juvenile) </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuAQUj5I8Yb7BlLhsOFx032TMTOtwtLiaMMtwUZ4gZNm3n_CXaixYd7stc5kqQG_5i3eLx1gMED5VEZSeBWh3uYACMjurUE5kCewt40uM8Xs8Q1M7RAR6ygB5E7WrUHIvZOz1kRyy9gkUPuq2oWPp_OMBCF8W9hlziQGVeJ_Bo2i9lWJU_qc1WkwlNUA/s750/r2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="479" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuAQUj5I8Yb7BlLhsOFx032TMTOtwtLiaMMtwUZ4gZNm3n_CXaixYd7stc5kqQG_5i3eLx1gMED5VEZSeBWh3uYACMjurUE5kCewt40uM8Xs8Q1M7RAR6ygB5E7WrUHIvZOz1kRyy9gkUPuq2oWPp_OMBCF8W9hlziQGVeJ_Bo2i9lWJU_qc1WkwlNUA/s16000/r2.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Raven</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhgeiPNJajoFVBkHyJiYX-byU6C4CfoZioqdHw9pA6p115G6YDBc9fqMUNu50TSYPLJyp0cPiDbrFOQ6i2sEZ300OWipAy-nG42eRtexDuFE5iLr0fGUYM9wvnwCeTn-YKXakr7XisKEDiWLzGkmLMAe-UExvuDul8WOraIfJsfX-QSLeRCmyZghzpzQ/s750/pfly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="487" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhgeiPNJajoFVBkHyJiYX-byU6C4CfoZioqdHw9pA6p115G6YDBc9fqMUNu50TSYPLJyp0cPiDbrFOQ6i2sEZ300OWipAy-nG42eRtexDuFE5iLr0fGUYM9wvnwCeTn-YKXakr7XisKEDiWLzGkmLMAe-UExvuDul8WOraIfJsfX-QSLeRCmyZghzpzQ/s16000/pfly.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Pied Flycatcher </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwZvI8QIPx2y9i1frR2B_v00_A20nJKOQCWQDSj-sQje9ph9KBZF-iy07Vk4ZDfNWVaTK8YZPstPiqvCVWY8lFC8ai77qsr8Km9plqhko_OvUKsiFaHP8PzqSRaCBurEROW2uYhyVG70O7nDZcqCykjfxsvyBJdKMOog4tiHg6Vtu7GSvfIhY03D2i2Q/s981/pfly1a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="981" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwZvI8QIPx2y9i1frR2B_v00_A20nJKOQCWQDSj-sQje9ph9KBZF-iy07Vk4ZDfNWVaTK8YZPstPiqvCVWY8lFC8ai77qsr8Km9plqhko_OvUKsiFaHP8PzqSRaCBurEROW2uYhyVG70O7nDZcqCykjfxsvyBJdKMOog4tiHg6Vtu7GSvfIhY03D2i2Q/s16000/pfly1a.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Pied Flycatcher (exrtreme crop showing some of the id features)</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-72296748691262624292023-08-26T18:05:00.000+01:002023-08-26T18:05:19.390+01:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I made two visits to Nethergong yesterday, an early morning visit and another visit late morning when the sun was out and the temperatures had risen. I also had an early visit this morning for a few hours. Birds noted included 10 Mute Swan, 8 Pheasant, 6 Moorhen, 1 Coot, 1 Golden Plover, c300 Herring Gull, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Marsh Harrier, 11 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 1 Peregrine, <b>2 Raven</b>, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Swallow, 2 Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 4 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Treecreeper, 2 Stonechat, <b>1 Wheatear</b>, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Bullfinch and 3 Reed Bunting. When I returned yesterday afternoon, it was always on my mind to check the likely areas for Redstart and Flycatchers and this theory proved to work well for as I checked the first sunny sheltered area, I found an immature male <b>Common Redstart</b> (<b><span style="color: red;">124</span></b>) and a <b>Spotted Flycatcher</b>. Both showed well at a distance and I even had both of them in the same binocular view hunting near each other. Redstart is just about annual here but with only the odd bird being seen, they can be easily missed. After a few records shots I left them in peace and moved on. I returned an hour or so later to check on them and was surprised to see the Spotted Flycatcher has disappeared and been replaced by another <b>Common Redstart</b>, this time an immature / female bird. To have <b>2 Common Redstart</b> on the same day here is quite something. I sat in the sun and made the most of their visit before they move on out of the area to continue their migration. 'Nocmig' recording at night continues to be very frustrating with only a Water Rail, Whimbrel and Tawny Owl heard. </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsOt7-CS1M0x6lbHYY3SfE8pkNGmQO1Jbzi47ZZXU0EbAXbm61AbC3ssQox16tqca31BK3K72nG8gPG-GHOHY1IhU4UeAdqeNjJhE_4EHSwkRAILINpRJviR9_UOhlbOQGl3gCypAmVsXVNW3Qyx0H0QD-dVv3uO3kk96HWaBmKUqAOxN6mcE0NYuGTQ/s750/red1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="528" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsOt7-CS1M0x6lbHYY3SfE8pkNGmQO1Jbzi47ZZXU0EbAXbm61AbC3ssQox16tqca31BK3K72nG8gPG-GHOHY1IhU4UeAdqeNjJhE_4EHSwkRAILINpRJviR9_UOhlbOQGl3gCypAmVsXVNW3Qyx0H0QD-dVv3uO3kk96HWaBmKUqAOxN6mcE0NYuGTQ/s16000/red1.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiILRkeFGYFP2dXXIIxL7uQbRHyktXMKnkn9dcTUBqacFEHwaLBpjwabZER2KUp78uK_XPPEezaqG1Em3HSrp7-vD1zv5JmTyyPoiU193hJSaDqSsq1-R2JJ-MhjqFmI_btCI0UiYFqIAI8tIg5RRoGujZTm2Ac5U3r0LGdUFPWd03joYLVo9YLieE7tw/s856/red2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="856" data-original-width="750" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiILRkeFGYFP2dXXIIxL7uQbRHyktXMKnkn9dcTUBqacFEHwaLBpjwabZER2KUp78uK_XPPEezaqG1Em3HSrp7-vD1zv5JmTyyPoiU193hJSaDqSsq1-R2JJ-MhjqFmI_btCI0UiYFqIAI8tIg5RRoGujZTm2Ac5U3r0LGdUFPWd03joYLVo9YLieE7tw/s16000/red2.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Male Common Redstart<br /></span><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>Marc Heathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02550045001915567414noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6673279542875354535.post-84871282378250121302023-08-21T15:16:00.005+01:002023-08-21T15:22:18.512+01:00<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">A couple of visits in the past few days have been quite predictable with the usual 50 or so species seen on a daily basis and despite bashing the bushes, I still cannot find a Redstart or a Pied Flycatcher, the latter being a scarce bird here with only one record in the six years of watching the site.
