With some beautiful winter sunshine and no wind, I decided on a brief visit on my way home to Nethergong yesterday (Tuesday) to see what was around. I again walked up the northern boundary to the gate, passing by the lake and reedbeds on the way. Birds noted were 1 Barn Owl which was out hunting at 4pm in the sunshine providing me with a couple of brief photo opportunities, 1 Bearded Tit was heard, c20 Mute Swan, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 ring tail Hen Harrier flew through the area again and maybe I can try for a photo of this species soon if I can get into a position at the right time of day. Also seen were 1 Yellowhammer, 2 Mallard and 1 Wigeon on the lake, 2 Moorhen, 2 Mistle Thrush, c40 Fieldfare, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker and 1 Goldcrest. I still can't believe I have not seen a Woodcock yet as there is more than plenty of suitable habitat but perhaps this cold spell may deliver a bird for me to find at the weekend.

    1. As you watch your patch every day Warren for 15 hours a day, I believe the odds are in your favour. I will try though to dig something out but feel this cold spell needs to be a bit longer for a good chance.
