With the sun still shining tonight, I made a visit over to Nethergong where I spent a couple of hours walking around the circuit a few times. I had plans to check all the fence lines and posts in the hope a Wheatear or Whinchat would be around but despite much searching, I failed to find any. I have never recorded these two species at Nethergong although i'm sure they pass through so hopefully if I keep looking, one will turn up soon. There was a cold annoying wind which didn't help tonight but I managed to see or hear 2 Whitethroat, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Nightingale, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker, 7 Yellowhammer, 1 Kestrel, 1 Bullfinch, 2 Mute Swan, 1 Skylark, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Pheasant, 5 Cormorant, 5 Chiffchaff, 1 Mistle Thrush and as I walked back to the car, 1 Barn Owl flew by with prey allowing me to grab a few shots. Hopefully a visit early Saturday to see whats around and see if I can add to the year list. Birds I would hope to get on the site at some point still include Swift, Hobby, Wheatear, Whinchat, Garden Warbler and maybe an outside chance of a Partridge species as well as Red Kite, Osprey or even a fly over wader. Still plenty to play for and see and no doubt, there may well be a bonus bird or two if i'm lucky.
