I have had a couple of visits in the past few weekends but its been not a lot of reward for quite a bit of effort. Continually checking the posts and fence lines have not yet produced any Whinchat or Wheatear but its still quite early yet and I remain hopeful still that I might be able to see one on the site. Birds of note in the past few sessions have been 6 Bullfinch which included a nice juvenile bird, the first I think I have ever seen, c10 Chiffchaff, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Treecreeper, 11 Swallow, 1 Kingfisher, 4 House Martin, 1 Golden Plover, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Little Egret, 1 Turtle Dove, 1 Marsh Harrier, 7 Long tailed Tit and a few Greylag Geese heard early morning as they left their roost in the Stour Valley. Just south of Nethergong at Grove Ferry, there has been a Glossy Ibis, Spoonbill and a few Cattle Egrets in the past few weeks. You never know, I might just get lucky with something like this passing over and its these bonus birds I really need now to boost the year list. Still all to play for and hopefully a good autumn bird will visit or pass through, preferably when I am on site!

  1. No Wheatear here yet either Marc, unusual, they are almost guaranteed in August!

  2. If I manage to find one, it will probably be recorded as the first site record. Plenty of good areas for one. Just need to be in the right place at the right time.
