A couple more visits to Nethergong during the last few days where the weather couldn't have been more different to last week with all the snow now gone and quite mild conditions. This has meant a reduction in Woodcock, Snipe, Lapwing, Redwing and Fieldfare numbers but there has still been plenty to see. An afternoon visit yesterday from 3pm till dusk produced 4 Yellowhammer, c100 Fieldfare, c30 Mute Swan, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Jay, c160 Cormorant, 1 Woodcock, 1 Snipe, 1 Kestrel, 19 Pheasant, 1 Water Rail, 1 Sparrowhawk but best of all was as I was scanning the open fields and marsh on the east side of the site, I picked up 2 Great White Egret (71) in flight which were then seen a few times flying up and dropping down into the ditches. A good bird to get in the area again. A morning visit today at 7am for a couple of hours produced 52 species. Birds of note included 4 Teal, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Raven on pylons and in the fields, 1 Peregrine, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Kestrel, 1 Jay, c110 Cormorant, 13 Linnet, 3 Yellowhammer, 2 Great White Egret again seen in flight a few times out on the marsh, 1 Water Rail, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Woodcock, 1 Bullfinch and 1 Sparrowhawk.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These are great shots, and that's an impressive list of sightings. I'm very jealous of you having this fabulous site close by, Marc. I went for a two hour walk this afternoon - my first time out for nearly three weeks - and only fired off about a dozen shots of nothing more exciting than Long-tailed Tit, Reed Bunting, and Nuthatch.

Many thanks Richard. A Nuthatch!!!! How I would love to see one of these here. Very scarce in this area I expect. Look forward to your shots. Take care.
