A couple of visits over the weekend where as often can be the case in July, pretty much the same birds seen on both days. With the weather being quite warm and windless in the evenings, I have recorded every night last week where a few birds turned up. New for the year was a Redshank (111) recorded flying over on the 12th along with a mystery noise which sounded a bit like a Night Heron.

Mystery call

I put it out on Twitter and 2 experienced birders also had thoughts similar to me. I'm not claiming it is one but who knows, It probably needs a wider audience to listen to it. Also recorded during the week at night included Whimbrel, Little Grebe, Oystercatcher, Lapwing and Common Tern. Birds seen over the weekend included the singing Turtle Dove still present, 2 Jay, 1 Raven, 8 Yellowhammer, 6 Reed Bunting, 1 Common Buzzard, 4 Blackcap, 5 Reed Warbler, 2 Treecreeper, 4 Swift, 1 Kingfisher, 7 Whitethroat, 5 Swallow, 3 Skylark, 5 Sedge Warbler and 3 Kestrel.

  1. A Night Heron would be a good record Marc! Super shots of the Turtle Dove again. Best wishes - take good care in the upcoming heat wave - - - Richard
