An excellent week on the 'Nocmig' front with Barn Owl, Tawny Owl heard along with Water Rail, Snipe, more Brent Geese and a few new year ticks. These included Little Grebe (81) on the 14th, Curlew (82) on the 17th, Lesser Black backed Gull (83) at the weekend during a visit, Wigeon (84) over at night on the 18th, Bittern (85) over calling on the 19th, a male Long eared Owl (86) calling in the early hours also on the 19th and 20th March produced a calling Oystercatcher (87). A visit Saturday morning produced 2 Greylag Geese, 1 Grey Partridge, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Peregrine, 2 Raven, 3 Skylark, 10 Chiffchaff including the first singing birds of the year. There were 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Mistle Thrush, 1 Bullfinch, 2 Yellowhammer and 11 Reed Bunting. Sunday morning for two hours early morning produced 3 Teal, 2 Coot, 1 Snipe, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Peregrine, 2 Raven, 5 Skylark, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Mistle Thrush, 13 Redwing, 16 Fieldfare, 3 Greenfinch, 1 Linnet, 2 Yellowhammer and 5 Reed Bunting. The rest of this week looks rainy and windy so probably won't get the recorder out much but I will keep an eye on the weather as it seems there's quite a bit of nocturnal migration on at the moment.
