An early start Saturday morning where a walk around the area produced 55 species, a good total for this time of the year. birds noted included 72 Mute Swan, 1 Water Rail, 2 Coot, 1 Jack Snipe seen well in flight in the flooded fields, 1 Common Snipe, 23 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Little Owl heard, 1 Tawny Owl heard, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Kestrel, 1 Merlin (79) seem zooming through the area towards the Stour Valley and 1 Jay. There were 10 Jackdaw, 2 Raven, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 6 Long tailed Tit, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 4 Song Thrush, 6 Redwing, 19 Fieldfare, 1 Grey Wagtail and a check of the mixed finch flock produced 33 Chaffinch, 23 Greenfinch, 29 Goldfinch and at least 10 Brambling, some starting to come into summer plumage. Also seen were 2 Reed Bunting, 1 Yellowhammer and 1 Siskin.
I'm envious of your Bramblings, Marc - not yet seen one this year, although I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a visit from one.
