Birding over the weekend produced 12 Greylag Geese, 1 Golden Plover, 11 Lapwing, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Barn Owl, 3 Kestrel, 1 Sedge Warbler, 15 Chiffchaff, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Whinchat, 5 Stonechat, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Bullfinch and 1 Yellowhammer. I returned again at 17:30 until 18:30 where I walked out to the eastern point of the patch that overlooks a few ploughed fields but also a few rough areas of grassland. The hope was that I could maybe pick up a Hen Harrier or a Short eared Owl. No luck on this front although I will give this quite a few sessions here as the winter progresses but I was rewarded with 4 Wheatear on a newly cut grass bank. I only saw my first this year here after watching for six years so to see four together was great. Even better that I was able to capture a few shots of them as they fed actively in the late afternoon sun. Also with them were 2 Whinchat and 3 Stonechat. I did manage to see 2 Marsh Harrier over the fields along with a few Kestrels and 1 Common Buzzard. 'Nocmig' recording during the week has produced 3 Tawny Owl, 1 Little Owl, 1 Barn Owl and best of all, a calling Bittern flying over on the 22nd.

  1. Nice shots of the Wheatear, Marc. Not seen one yet this autumn, but hope I might rectify the situation in the next few days. Best wishes - stay safe - - - Richard

    1. Thanks Richard. I've often felt they must pass through but never seem to have any luck over the years. A late visit in the day must be the secret then. Take care.
