I spent a couple of hours in my hide on Saturday from about 8:30am and then a couple of hours wandering around the site and near area in mild sunny conditions. From the hide I had visiting Blue and Great Tits along with Great spotted Woodpecker and Robin. The Jays could be seen nearby but never come into to investigate. I may have to make another feeding station more in the woods to maybe get this species in. Nonetheless, I was able to get a few pleasing images. The wander around proved quite quiet with 2 Raven noted along with a few Redwing and Fieldfare. 2 Kingfisher were watched flying past my sticks a few times and landed in the nearby overhanging branches. If only they would use the posts and give me a chance with the camera. I will persevere. Also seen were 1 Barn Owl, 2 Bullfinch and a few Skylark and Siskin over. Sunday morning was dominated by thick fog for all the session which slightly spoilt things but a wander around produced 1 Barn Owl, 3 Greylag Geese, 3 Water Rail, 1 Raven heard, 2 Treecreeper, 1 Grey Wagtail and 1 Stonechat. A walk across the road to check the flooded pools produced 1 Jack Snipe which flew up from a pool giving brief flight views before dropping down again quickly out of sight. Nocmig recording during a few nights produced Barn, Little and Tawny Owls along with a flock of Brent Geese over calling early Monday morning.
I'm delighted to see that the site, your set-up, and your photographic talents are continuing to deliver, Marc! A pal of mine did a photo set-up specifically for Jays. He used acorns to bring them in and topped them up daily - I know, because I was seconded to top them up when he was away for a few days! Best wishes - - - - - Richard
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Richard. Hopefully I can get a set up in the woods going and get a few Jays in with the acorns. Take care.
