A busy Bank Holiday weekend with 3 visits made early morning to wander around the site. A good range of species noted Saturday which included 2 Shoveler, 2 Grey Partridge, 3 Cuckoo, 2 Swift, 2 Common Tern, 2 Bittern heard booming early morning from the Stour Valley, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kingfisher, 8 Common Buzzard, 4 Jay, 2 Raven, 11 Sedge Warbler, 16 Reed Warbler, 7 Swallow and 1 House Martin. There were 10 Chiffchaff, 11 Blackcap, 18 Whitethroat, 2 Stonechat, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Bullfinch, 2 Greenfinch, 5 Corn Bunting (107) not annual here, 5 Yellowhammer and 6 Reed Bunting. Sunday morning produced 2 Shoveler, 2 Turtle Dove (108), 3 Cuckoo, 1 Bittern heard booming, 2 Kingfisher, 2 Kestrel, 2 Raven, 9 Sedge Warbler, 17 Reed Warbler, 6 Swallow, 6 Chiffchaff, 1 Garden Warbler (109) singing, 7 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Whitethroat, 1 Stonechat, 1 Grey Wagtail, 4 Linnet, 3 Yellowhammer and 5 Reed Bunting. I was out early this morning as usual where I spent some time listening unsuccessfully for any singing Golden Orioles. Other birds noted included 2 Grey Partridge, 2 Turtle Dove, 2 Cuckoo, 2 Common Tern, 1 Bittern heard booming, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Kingfisher, 2 Raven, 3 Sedge Warbler, 10 Reed Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 6 Blackcap, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Stonechat, 1 Greenfinch, 3 Yellowhammer and 4 Reed Bunting. 'Nocmig' continues to be very disappointing with only 1 Oystercatcher,1 Barn Owl and the Bittern heard booming. Things can only get better!
Kingfisher
That Kingfisher image is an absolute cracker, Marc!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I've not seen a Turtle Dove for a quite a few years now. I used to see them regularly at Rutland Water but that was over ten years ago!
My very best wishes - - - Richard
Many thanks Richard. Weather permitting, I may try and get the hide set up on the stream at the weekend to see whether the Kingfisher passes by and lands again on the same bush. Take care.
