Birding in freezing conditions with many of the pools and ditches frozen over from 06:45 - 10:30am produced 72 Mallard, c170 Stock Dove, 2 Water Rail, 2 Coot on the frozen lake with c 35 Mallard, 12 Golden Plover in fields with c150 Lapwing, 27 Snipe, 1 Green Sandpiper (70) flew up the ditches, 3 Common Gull, c450 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker and 2 Kestrel. There were c40 Rook, 1 Peregrine (71) seen carrying prey to a pylon, 1 Raven, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 3 Long tailed Tit, 3 Song Thrush, 3 Fieldfare, 3 Stonechat, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Meadow Pipit, 2 Bullfinch and 3 Reed Bunting. 'Nocmig' recording on Friday night produced just 1 Tawny Owl calling in the early hours.
