A few early morning sessions throughout the week hinted at a bit of migration happening with a steady build up of warblers with Willow Warblers being quite notable. Birds of note on the 30th have included 1 Turtle Dove, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Barn Owl, 3 Green Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 3 Skylark, 1 Sedge Warbler, 6 Reed Warbler, 11 Swallow, 5 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 1 Treecreeper, 2 Yellowhammer and 8 Reed Bunting. A visit on the 1st August produced 1 Gadwall on the lake, 3 Tufted Duck, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Kestrel, 12 Swallow, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 1 Bullfinch and 2 Yellowhammer. The 2nd produced 7 Tufted Duck, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, 2 Raven, 3 Sedge Warbler, 3 Reed Warbler, 16 Swallow, 6 Chiffchaff, 6 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 3 Whitethroat, 3 Stonechat including 2 juvenile birds, 3 Bullfinch, 3 Yellowhammer and 2 Reed Bunting. Nocmig recording at night is still very quiet with only 1 Tawny Owl, 1 Barn Owl and a calling Grey Partridge. Hopefully a few waders will be caught in the next week or so.

  1. I have never seen a Willow Warbler stretched and alert to look twice its size in the top image compared to all the others below it. All accompanied by an impressive list Marc.

    1. Getting Willow Warbler in spring is normally hard work so I often have to wait for the narrow window where the juveniles pass through in the early Autumn. Within a week or so, they will all be gone I expect. Take care.
