I made an evening session tonight at Nethergong, arriving at 7pm where I walked the circuit before leaving at 8.15pm as it was getting dark. It ended up being a very productive time with 3 new year ticks which included 1 Linnet (81), 1 Grasshopper Warbler (82) which was reeling in the northern reedbed and 1 Sedge Warbler (83) also singing in the same area. Other birds noted this evening included 2 Barn Owl, 1 ring tail Hen Harrier flew through towards Grove Ferry at 7.38pm, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Kestrel, 1 Common Buzzard, 3 Mallard, 2 Coot, 3 Yellowhammer, 2 Green Woodpecker and 1 Great spotted Woodpecker. A real bonus to get the Grasshopper Warbler and a terrific sound to listen to as it was getting dark.
