Its been a while since I have visited Nethergong to see whats about but with the migrants arriving, I had better start making a few visits now to see if I can close in on the 100 species target I set myself, and to keep Warren on his toes. I made a 1 hour visit today at 11am where completing the circuit, I noted 5 Mallard, 1 Mute Swan, 1 Kestrel, 1 Marsh Harrier, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap (76), 4 Swallow (77), 1 Common Whitethroat (78), 4 Sand Martin (79) and 1 House Martin (80). I also saw 2 Common Buzzard soaring and 1 Cetti's Warbler was heard. The list moves on nicely and with hopefully a few more migrants possible and the odd bonus bird, it all looks good. I spoke with Jed, the owner this afternoon who informed me that he had seen a couple of Shoveler on the lake and heard the Cuckoo in the past few days. The Shoveler would be new for me there so I might have to make an after work visit this week to check out the situation and maybe an evening visit to see if I can hear Nightingale at the site.
