Having not visited Nethergong for a few weeks, I was keen for a visit to see what was about so with that in mind, I was up early this morning and duly arrived at Nethergong at 5am. I spent 4 hours wandering around the circuit 3 times where I noted 50 species which I was quite pleased with. Birds noted this morning included 1 Barn Owl which showed well early on as it hunted the fields which provided me with a few photo opportunities, 1 Green Woodpecker, 4 Yellowhammer, 3 Blackcap, 1 Mistle Thrush, 5 Whitethroat, 26 Mallard, 2 Little Owl including 1 adult hunting worms on the floor and feeding 1 juvenile and 1 Green Sandpiper (101) flew west which was new for the year. There were 1 Turtle Dove, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Skylark, 6 Swallow, 32 Swift, 3 Mute Swan, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Kestrel, 2 Chiffchaff, 4 Linnet, 1 Moorhen, c15 Long tailed Tit, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Treecreeper, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Jay and 1 Sparrowhawk. A pleasant session and nice to get the year list rolling on again. I just hope for a good autumn at Nethergong.

  1. Still got a Cuckoo there then Marc. A rarity for Pittswood in July, even when they were a more common bird :-)

    1. The cuckoo was a fly through and didn't stop. No doubt thinking about going back south.
