Sunday 19 May 2019

I have just returned from a weekends camping at Nethergong where on both Saturday and Sunday morning, I was up around 5am and spent a few hours birding around the site while it was quiet. I managed to see or hear a creditable 63 species which included 3 Cuckoo, 1 Little Owl heard, 1 Barn Owl seen hunting on a few occasions, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker were observed at their nest site and with some patience, I was rewarded with some lovely views and a few photo opportunities. There were a few Swallow, Sand and House Martin, 5 Reed Warbler, c6 Yellowhammer, 1 Turtle Dove heard, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Kestrel, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Jay, 4 Mute Swan, 5 Skylark, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Common Tern, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Garden Warbler, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Nightingale, 4 Swift, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Common Buzzard, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Yellow Wagtail and 1 adult Mediterranean Gull flew east. Other species I didn't see but would of expected to were Starling, Treecreeper and Reed Bunting.
