I arrived at Nethergong this morning at 06:30 where after parking on the bridge, I spent about 30 minutes listening to the day waking up. There is now plenty of bird song to be heard in the mornings with a number of species all vying for attention. A Barn Owl passed by the car as I watched, are there any better sights in birding to start the day off. After moving and parking up at Nethergong, I then spent about 3 hours walking around the site in pleasant conditions but with a strengthening wind. Birds noted included 3 Green Woodpecker, 3 Grey Heron, c100 Fieldfare, 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Water Rail, 10 Long tailed Tit, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Jay, 1 Skylark, 3 Great White Egret seen in flight mostly from the Eastern gate, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Bullfinch, 2 Grey Wagtail and 1 Greenfinch. There were 2 Stonechat, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 12 Linnet, c10 Mute Swan, 5 Reed Bunting, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2 Raven flying south calling and I had frustrating views of some large Gulls which I couldn't decide at range whether they were Great Black or Lesser Black backed Gulls. Slightly worrying that since the cold weather and snow, I have not heard a Cetti's Warbler at all. I'm hoping that they have not perished in the bad weather.

    1. Thank you Richard. The old famous stand still and look like a gate pos. trick won on this occasion. Take care.
