I cycled down to Nethergong this morning at 08:30 in cloudy conditions where I spent a few hours walking around the site looking for any new birds for the year. The sun tried to come out which it did briefly but it overall remained cloudy. birds noted included 143 Black headed Gulls on the flooded fields, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 4 Pheasant, 5 Stock Dove, 56 Cormorant, 7 Yellowhammer, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Reed Bunting, 2 Peregrine, 1 Sparrowhawk, 4 Skylark, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Kestrel, 7 Long tailed Tit, 2 Raven spent nearly an hour on the pylons and in fields, 3 Great White Egret in flight occasionally east of the site, 2 Coot, c40 Fieldfare, 4 Common Buzzard, 1 Bullfinch and 1 Mistle Thrush. Recording last night produced Gadwall (75) along with a single Wigeon (76) heard. Although not seen, I will add any new birds for the year list that I manage to record during night sessions. Also nice to record Little and Tawny Owl too.
Some more good records there, Marc. Had to turn the sound right up to here the Little Owl. I'm surprised that you managed to pick it out! Stay safe - - - Richard
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard. Easy to pick out on the sonogram. I'm hopeful of a few more good birds during the night in the next few months.
