A couple of visits over the weekend in sunny but very windy conditions which have kept a few species hidden away as well I think. Birds of note seen included up to 4 Cuckoo seen chasing each other around, 3 Swift, 1 Coot, 5 Common Tern, 2 Sparrowhawk, 2 Stonechat which have bred this year and are feeding young, 1 Turtle Dove, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Jay, 5 Sand Martin, 4 Mute Swan, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Buzzard, 1 Barn Owl, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker and 2 Kestrel. For the first time I believe in the area, a pair of Raven have nested at Nethergong and have raised 1 young which looks due to fledge in the next few days all being well. It's certainly getting active in the nest and flapping quite a lot to strengthen the wings. There were 8 Skylark, 4 Sedge Warbler, 12 Reed Warbler, 2 House Martin, 5 Cetti's Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 6 Long tailed Tit, 9 Whitethroat, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Linnet, 5 Yellowhammer and 10 Reed Bunting. Recording at night still continues to be very poor with very little seemingly flying over at the moment.

  1. Brilliant birds, my favourite is the Cuckoo Marc. Yesterday was the first in 5 last year, but I couldn't see it.

  3. The real star is the Cuckoo shot, Marc! That's no mean feat to have captured it in flight. Not even heard one yet this year. Best wishes - - - - Richard

  4. I had 4 Cuckoo chasing each other the other day. A shame you have not connected yet. A real sound of the summer that is vanishing rapidly. Take care.
