A few sessions over the past few weeks have been quite rewarding with a Ringed Plover (124) which was heard calling early on the 29th August. A visit on Saturday from 6am produced 2 Tree Pipit (125) which were both initially flushed from the deck with one then perching in a nearby tree where I was able to get good views of this very scarce bird here and a few photos. There were 3 Grey Heron, 1 Golden Plover heard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzard, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, 2 Raven, 8 Skylark, 5 Swallow, 16 Chiffchaff, 3 Cetti's Warbler and 7 Long tailed Tit. Also seen were 3 Blackcap, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Mistle Thrush, 7 Whinchat, 2 Stonechat, 2 Wheatear, 6 Linnet, 1 Corn Bunting, 1 Yellowhammer, and 10 Reed Bunting. A similar walk this morning from 6am in cloudy conditions produced 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 2 Hobby, 2 Jay, 2 Raven, 4 Reed Warbler, 14 Swallow, 10 House Martin, 9 Chiffchaff, 4 Cetti's Warbler, 14 Long tailed Tit, 2 Blackcap, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Firecrest was a surprise, 1 probable Wood Warbler was heard performing a trill type sub song, just like the one earlier in the year but went unseen and soon stopped calling. There were 9 Whinchat, 4 Wheatear, 1 Treecreeper, 2 Stonechat, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Tree Pipit flying south calling, 7 Chaffinch, 2 Bullfinch and 7 Reed Bunting. Despite a good few hours of searching suitable habitat, still no Flycatchers or Redstarts. I will have to hope that next weekend produces an opportunity of them moving through and being seen. 'Nocmig' continues to be very quiet with Little Owl recorded and a flock of Greylag Geese over during one evening.

  1. An impressive haul over the 'few sessions' including 9/7 Whinchat which could possibly be 16 in total for the two sessions, plus a possible Wood Warbler performing a 'trill type sub song'....heck!

Hope next weekend produces your hopes for more passage birds Marc.

    Regards from the north....Pete.
