I was out early on Saturday morning where I spent some time in the dark overlooking a small wood where Woodcock often can be seen flying into roost. Whilst waiting I could hear Gadwall (69) flying over calling and the odd Skylark could be heard. Just before 7am, 3 Woodcock appeared and I had lovely silhouetted views as they flew into the wood. I then spent a good few hours wandering around the patch where I noted 2 Greylag Geese (70), 12 Mute Swan, 423 Woodpigeon, 2 Coot, 1 Snipe, 69 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Raven, 6 Skylark, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 5 Song Thrush, 4 Redwing, 1 Grey Wagtail (71) and 4 Chaffinch. I had a walk through the cabbage field looking for Pipits and was surprised to find 11 Water Pipit. They were picked up on call as they flew up and soon landed again further away in the field. Also seen were 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Linnet, 1 Bullfinch and 3 Reed Bunting. Sunday morning saw blue skies but with a distinct chill in the air. Birds noted included 2 Woodcock, 2 Raven, 1 Kingfisher (72), 1 Kestrel, 1 Stonechat and a walk back through the cabbage field produced at least 14 Water Pipit. At one point there were c30 Pipit in the air and whilst some are Meadow Pipit, It's likely there are more Water Pipit present. Also seen in the field were 2 Grey Partridge along with a few Skylark with a few birds in song, 'Nocmig' recording at night continues to be quiet with just Barn Owl and Tawny Owl heard.
