I had a brief visit on Saturday but other than the commoner birds noted and Storm Dennis on its way, I decided to call it a day quite early. I returned this morning for a few hours and then again later this afternoon. Birds noted this morning in a heavily flooded area included 3 Grey Heron, 1 Green Woodpecker, 6 Yellowhammer, 4 Mute Swan, 1 Fieldfare, 11 Meadow Pipit, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 4 Common Buzzard, 1 Water Rail, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Greylag Geese, 4 Mistle Thrush, 5 Skylark, 3 Kestrel and 1 Great spotted Woodpecker. Birds noted this afternoon between 3 - 4:30pm included 1 Great Black backed Gull (67) flew north, 1 Great White Egret seen distantly in flight flying south, probably towards Grove Ferry, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Peregrine, 2 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, c500 Fieldfare, c400 Cormorant and 1 Grey Wagtail.

    1. It makes for a nice photo but would happily swap for a sunny, windless and warm day at the moment.

  2. Considering the state of the environment, Marc, that was a pretty impressive day's birding. I'm getting somewhat sick of this weather - roll on the summer! Best wishes - - - Richard

  3. Pretty flooded but always hopeful a good bird may appear. For such a small site, the campsite and surrounding fields do hold a good variety of bird and wildlife. Raven last week was a big bonus. Only a few weeks until the migrants arrive thankfully...and the promise of better weather to come.

  4. Considering the site is about 700m in length and 200m wide, it does get a good amount of wildlife. On any given day, I can see 50+ species on site which is pretty good. Add the rest of the wildlife and it's a haven for wildlife.
