With the week off work, I've been able to make a few early morning visits which included yesterday and today. Bird noted yesterday included 1 Barn Owl, c1200 Cormorant flying out towards the coast, 1 Redwing (68) called and was seeing briefly in the top of a tree, 1 Kestrel, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Grey Heron,  c200 Fieldfare, 15 Mute Swan, 1 Greenfinch, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 5 Meadow Pipit, 1 Water Rail, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Reed Bunting, 1 Goldcrest and 2 Bullfinch. For what feels like a long while, this mornings visit was sunny and with only a light wind which made for a pleasant walk. Birds noted included 2 Barn Owl hunting early on, c700 Cormorant, 1 Mistle Thrush, 4 Grey Heron, 2 Common Buzzard, 2 Green Woodpecker, 3 Coot, 7 Yellowhammer, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Water Rail, 28 Mute Swan, 2 Skylark, 12 Meadow Pipit and 4 Great spotted Woodpecker. Whilst scanning from the eastern gate, I picked up 10 Golden Plover (69) in flight, also seen were 6 Fieldfare, a few Feral Pigeon (70), 2 Stonechat and 1 Bullfinch.

  1. Another good count, Marc. The Blue Tit shot is beautiful - a reminder that the 'common' birds are, sadly, often overlooked by photographers.

I wish we had your weather - today has been cold and wet, and not at all pleasant.

    1. Having birded this place for a few years now, it's made me really aware how beautiful our common birds are. I found myself studying the Blue Tit like I've never done before. Don't be fooled by the weather. An hour or so later and it was pouring hard again.
