Sunday 31 January 2021

Birding highlights and visits during January have been few due to only visiting twice for a few hours each time but I have managed to hear or see 58 species so far. Early January produced 2 Barn Owl, 1 Woodcock, 1 Tawny Owl, 1 Water Rail, 2 Skylark, 1 Teal, 2 Lesser Black Backed Gull, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Yellowhammer, 1 Bullfinch, 2 Raven were seen on a few occasions during my visit flying between the pylons and landing and feeding in the fields, 8 Fieldfare, 5 Stonechat and 2 Marsh Harrier. Today (Sunday) I spent a couple of hours having a wander around the site and managed to see 3 Raven interacting with each other.

Raven

They seem to be quite regular at the moment in the area. Other birds today  included 1 Kingfisher (56) 1 Grey Wagtail (57) 3 Bullfinch, 9 Redwing, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Common Buzzard including 1 pale individual which could be easily mistaken for an Osprey, 5 Coot, 2 Teal, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Treecreeper (58) 2 Fieldfare and 9 Meadow Pipit.

  1. Some great sightings there, Marc, and I love that Kingfisher shot - even if there is a an unsightly sign at the bottom of the post. Pity it didn't say 'no fishing'!

    Best wishes - stay safe - - - Richard

    1. Many thanks Richard. It's a superb place as I'm sure you hear often enough from me. Also excellent for birds as well. So much potential here. Take care.
