The past few couple of mornings, I have cycled down to Nethergong about 8am where I have then spent a few hours wandering around the site before spending some time at the eastern gate looking over the fields and marsh. Yesterday in occasional sunny conditions I noted 10 Yellowhammer, 1 Mistle Thrush, c110 Redwing, 3 Raven, 1 Sparrowhawk, 4 Linnet, 1 Coot, 1 Reed Bunting, 4 Common Buzzard, c30 Fieldfare, 2 Skylark, 2 Kestrel, 1 Lapwing, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Marsh Harrier. This morning the weather was nice and sunny and feeling quite warm out of the wind. Birds were in fine voice around the site making for a nice walk. I left my recorder on whilst I walked around in the hope I might record something of interest flying over. Birds noted this morning included 2 Goldcrest displaying to each other which provided me with a nice photo opportunity, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Little Egret, 1 singing Chiffchaff (77) was heard briefly and seen a while later, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Bullfinch, c30 Fieldfare, 1 Great White Egret seen out on the marsh distantly and 1 Water Rail.
There were 3 Marsh Harrier, 2 Stonechat, 1 Sparrowhawk, 4 Common Buzzard, 2 Lesser Black backed Gull, 1 Lesser Redpoll (78) flew south calling, 8 Yellowhammer, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 3 Raven seen and heard well, 3 Skylark, 2 Kestrel, 1 Coot, 5 Linnet, 1 Grey Heron and as I walked back to the entrance, I heard and picked out a Curlew (79) which flew north. A good bird for here and after checking the recorder, I had a few calls from it as it passed over. 1 Peacock Butterfly was also seen enjoying the sunshine.

I thought that Goldcrest shot looked great on Twitter, Marc, but seeing it in all its glory on this blog post takes it up a notch or two further! Good to see the Curlew shots too. Take care - - - Richard
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard. One of my better Goldcrest shots I think. A Curlew is a good bird here so any shot is a bonus. Take care.
