With a few weeks off work, I have made a couple of visits to Nethergong in the past few days in changeable weather conditions where apart from a few more Chiffchaff, Blackcap and 1 Swallow noted, it has remained generally quite quiet. With light winds for the past few days, this has given me the opportunity to record during the nights where the highlight was a Little Ringed Plover (89) calling on the 5th April which is a new bird for the area.

I made another visit this morning arriving at 05:30am where in quite still conditions, I managed to hear 1 Bittern booming from the direction of the Stour Valley. Also noted were 1 Little Owl, 1 Barn Owl, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Reed Bunting, 2 Bullfinch, 3 Grey Heron, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Jay, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Skylark, 2 Coot, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Raven heard 'cronking', 6 Chiffchaff, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Yellowhammer, 4 Blackcap, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Ring necked Parakeet (90) flew north calling, 1 Greenfinch and 2 Linnet.

  1. Sorry for the late visit, Marc. Been a bit tied up of late - sadly, not birding!

Super images of Wren and Yellowhammer. I particularly like the second Wren image.

    Take good care - - - Richard
