Just got back from 3 days camping at Nethergong with friends where I was able to get out a few times to do some birding and look for dragonflies. Whilst there was some sun on most days, there was a strong northerly wind which made finding birds a challenge. The highlight however was finding a Whinchat (118) which took wandering a number of fields around the site before returning and finding one not far from our tent! Other birds noted included 1 Whimbrel and Tawny Owl recorded at night, 4 Buzzard, 5 Tufted Duck ducklings which are growing fast, a few Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Whitethroat, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 4 Yellowhammer, 1 Kestrel, 3 House Martin and 1 Sand Martin. There are a couple of pairs of Swallow which nest every year on site so I spent a while taking a number of photos of the adults coming in to feed the young. It would be nice to reach 120 species for the year and with only 2 species needed, it's well within reach. Recording at night continues to still be quiet but i'm working on the principal that if I keep on trying most nights when the weather is favorable, I might get lucky with a few flyover species.

    1. Many thanks Richard. Hoping the nocmig delivers at night but quiet at the moment. Got to be something out there. Take care.
