Birding this morning at Nethergong from 05:30 - 09:45 produced a credible 55 species which for early August is pretty good here. Birds noted included 2 Greylag Geese, 2 Turtle Dove showing on the wires and with a little patience I was able to get into a position to grab a few shots. To see one is pretty good nowadays so to see 2 together is quite special and also raises the hope that they may have bred this year. There were 3 Green Woodpecker, 2 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Kestrel, 1 Hobby, 2 Jay, 2 Raven seen a few times working between the pylons, 2 Sedge Warbler, 9 Reed Warbler, 1 Grasshopper Warbler (113) popped up in a bush full of warblers and 15 Swallow. Also seen today were 7 House Martin, 5 Willow Warbler including 2 birds singing, 5 Chiffchaff, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 6 Long tailed Tit, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Treecreeper, 1 Bullfinch, 6 Yellowhammer and 4 Reed Bunting.

  1. Two Turtle Doves - now that's just being greedy! I do hope that it does indicate the possibility of them breeding. Best wishes - - - Richard.

    1. I suppose trying to see a juvenile in the next few weeks will be the indicator of success. Take care.
