A couple of visits during the week in varying weather produced a few birds. On the 1st August I noted 6 Turtle Dove including 3 juvenile birds which was an excellent count for the site and nice to know they have successfully bred again this year. There were 2 Swift, 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Barn Owl, 4 Kestrel, 2 Raven, 15 Reed Warbler, 3 Sand Martin, 3 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap, 8 Whitethroat, 1 Wheatear seen whilst walking through a newly ploughed field, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Bullfinch, 5 Yellowhammer and 8 Reed Bunting. This morning I had a walk around early morning before the heavy rain set in around 08:30. Birds noted included 2 Raven, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Barn Owl, 8 Sedge Warbler, 2 Swallow, 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, 1 Garden Warbler, 11 Linnet, 2 Yellowhammer and 3 Reed Bunting. Hopefully now we are into August I may pick up the odd wader flying over at night although recording the past few nights has produced nothing at all. Lesser Whitethroat and Whinchat should appear soon all being well to boost the year list.

  1. Lovely shots of the Wheatear, Marc. I am still very envious of you seeing Turtle Doves - it's more than 15 years since I last saw one!

I was pleased to see you get a mention in a book that I'm reading at the moment - 'Dragonflight' by Marianne Taylor.

    Best wishes - stay safe - - - Richard

    1. 15 years! That's incredible. I have that book too but didn't realise I had a mention until I literally came across it. A lovely book. Take care.
